Preparation Checklist for Meetings

The Bilal Community Mentorship Program is created by and for members of the Bilal Community. This resource is exclusively for our community members to connect, learn, and grow together.

Know Your Goals

Think about what you want to learn or achieve from the meeting. Write down specific questions to ask.

Research Your Mentor

Learn about your mentor's background and career. This will help you ask better questions and show that you care.

Get Organized

Make an agenda: List the main topics you want to discuss. Prepare notes: If you're using your phone or laptop, have your notes ready and easy to find.

Set Up for Online Meetings

Check your internet: Make sure you have a strong and stable connection. Test your equipment: Ensure your camera and microphone work before the meeting. Find a quiet place: Choose a distraction-free spot for the conversation.

Dress and Act Professionally

Dress appropriately: Wear semi-professional or professional clothing suitable for the meeting. Be on time: Arrive or log in a few minutes early.

Communicate Respectfully

Be polite: Use courteous language and avoid explicit terms during the conversation. No abbreviations in emails: When emailing your mentor, write in full sentences without using shortcuts.

Use Your Time Wisely

Stay focused: Remember that your mentor is there to help you succeed. Make sure to use the time effectively by sticking to your agenda.

Follow Up After the Meeting

Send a thank you note: After the meeting, send a brief email thanking your mentor for their time and advice. Reflect on what you learned: Review your notes and think about how to apply their insights.
