Know Your Goals
Think about what you want to learn or achieve from the meeting. Write down specific questions to ask.
Research Your Mentor
Learn about your mentor's background and career. This will help you ask better questions and show that you care.
Get Organized
Make an agenda: List the main topics you want to discuss. Prepare notes: If you're using your phone or laptop, have your notes ready and easy to find.
Set Up for Online Meetings
Check your internet: Make sure you have a strong and stable connection. Test your equipment: Ensure your camera and microphone work before the meeting. Find a quiet place: Choose a distraction-free spot for the conversation.
Dress and Act Professionally
Dress appropriately: Wear semi-professional or professional clothing suitable for the meeting. Be on time: Arrive or log in a few minutes early.
Communicate Respectfully
Be polite: Use courteous language and avoid explicit terms during the conversation. No abbreviations in emails: When emailing your mentor, write in full sentences without using shortcuts.
Use Your Time Wisely
Stay focused: Remember that your mentor is there to help you succeed. Make sure to use the time effectively by sticking to your agenda.
Follow Up After the Meeting
Send a thank you note: After the meeting, send a brief email thanking your mentor for their time and advice. Reflect on what you learned: Review your notes and think about how to apply their insights.
